About
The Future of Car Wash Safety is here.
The industrial robot has been with us for decades and has safely produced millions of items safely while interacting with humans. Human safety has always been the first priority, followed by the machine safety.
But now that you want to combine the fantastic uptime and flexibility of an industrial robot in the unregulated car wash environment. The standard robotic safety rules no longer apply. When you perform a risk assessment you realize the combination of the number of risks and the constantly changing vehicle profiles are exponentially mind boggling and incompatible with current safety and programming systems.
Some of the many risks include windows opening inside the wash system, doors opening and yes even people walking through with their car. All this can be seen on social media. The risk to humans is massive and this is the top priority, we are close to resolving this to allow large robots to be used. Cobot's can be used but only reduce the overall risks marginally.
Now look at how many combinations of a new Chevy pickup truck from the factory and then add the aftermarket components like tonneau covers and caps. The variations are exponentially impossible to manually program the robot to wash. Now multiply that by the 3500 different name plates across the globe.
· 2/4 door,
· short/long box
· different suspension heights
· side view mirrors
Now add local environmental challenges. Harsh Canadian winters that leave layers of ice and snow to be removed. Or how about the red Arizona mud? What happens when the ice and mud flies through the wash system?
To solve this and allow a seamless rollout across the globe, we are developing the AI to recognize these different vehicle shapes and environmental issues for effective cleaning and safely using industrial robots to wash vehicles in a safe manner in the toughest safety environment in the world here in Canada.
